1949 & 1950 RCA TV Series
by James Lawniczak #17
This is a list of the known pieces in the 1949 and 1950 RCA TV series. All known pieces from this series come from the NYC metropolitan area. The pieces are all 35mm round and all have the same reverse. Here is a sample of the words on one of the pieces:
I Placed My Order with/ Plesser's/ [cent rev.]/ 17-18 W. Main/ Babylon, N.Y. Babylon 2721\\ I Have Reserved a New "MP" RCA Victor TV Set/ [1950D cent obv.]/ [star].
I believe that these pieces must have been given to customers when they ordered the new TV set. Remember in 1949, television was very new. The first market that televisions were introduced in was New York City. WNBT, New York City, aired the nation's first television broadcast on July 1, 1941, a baseball game at Ebbets Field between the Dodgers and the Phillys.
This is a very interesting series and additional pieces are always coming to light. Please send any additional information to me at ohioencased@adelphia.net. Thanks. Jim
