Lewis and Clark Exposition Encasements
by John Gilbert
This page of my Lewis and Clark Exposition collection looks
only at encasements. Trantow 22a and 22b, are encased cents. I have two examples
of the 1905 encasement (22b). My examples were not inserted into the holders
with consistency as to which side of the cent went with which side of the
encasement. Thus it is a toss-up as to which side to call the obverse. :) Here
are the "obverses" of two examples of Trantow 22b:

Here are the reverses:

Also I have two encasements that are unlisted by Trantow. These have very
similar designs, but come from different dies. Again, the inserting may occur
with either side of the encasement matched with the face of the coin.(?) Here
are the "obverses" of two examples unlisted by Trantow:

Here are the reverses:

There is another encasement that I do not have, and Trantow did not list. An
example was sold on eBay.
Courtesy of "Lisa" I have been sent a scan of yet another
encasement that I do not have (but have seen for sale before).
Finally, there is one more encasement that I do not have, and Trantow
did not list. An example was sold on eBay. This seems to be an encasement that
has, not a cent, but a previously not catalogued cent sized token!
