INQUIRY: "I'm new to this stuff, but I'm
interested in buying a coin I saw listed. it's a Brownlee Chevrolet coin
from my grandfathers dealership. Can you help me? Thanks, Alex?"
REPLY: "Hello, Alex, it can be difficult to
try to find a single specific piece for sale. The best bet is on
www.ebay.com -- there are always in the range of over 100 encased pieces
for sale on eBay at any given time and new pieces will come on at all
times. I don't know the specifics of your piece, but I assume it is part
of the 1947, 1948 Chevy series, and don't know what state it is from. I
think I vaguely remember hearing about it or seeing it at some time, but
I can't remember anything more specific. If you go on eBay and your
piece is not selling now (most likely), there is a way that you can set
up lists (such as searches for "Brownlee") and eBay will send you a
notice if there's ever a posting with Brownlee in it. If I hear of one
later, I'll try to remember to let you know. What date is the encased
and what city and state if you know? I asked another hobbyist who is
very knowledgeable about Chevy encased and he told me that the Brownlee
encased is from Lakewood Ohio and is a 1948 cent. He doesn't have an
extra to spare and as I mentioned I don't have one. He told me that he'd
look out for one and tell me if he sees one."

2010 has ushered in some changes here at ECI.
The most drastic is the discontinuing of our quarterly newsletter. It
was becoming more difficult to put an issue together due to the lack of
contributions from our membership. Plus timeliness was a factor.
Sometimes it was old news by the time the newsletter came out. So this
is what we're doing, starting January 13th we have replaced what
was the "Announcement" page with "ECI Club News", the old
page has been archived. The club news page will be updated at least
weekly if not daily when news happens. Our recommendation is to visit
the website on a regular basis. For those who may wish to print the Club
News, one web page makes two printed pages.
We have also renamed the "News" page as
"Coin Hobby News". That feature will be mainly a short report about new
coin releases and other pertinent info about coin collecting that may be
of interest.
We have added a new link to the home page for the
"Mint News Blog" by Michael Zielinski. It is well worth a visit.
Another major change is the "Members" page is now
password protected. This has been added to protect our membership from
exploitation by the many unscrupulous people infesting the web. To
obtain the password click on "Our Members" and follow the instructions.
You must know your member number. |

Steve Swingenstein #123 has issued the following
challenge: how many words can be made from encased? He claims to have
made 41 using plurals. |
|
|
Well, Steve may have gone a little
too far this time by possibly starting a new trend of giving Santa
presents when he gave the jolly Old Elf one of his personalized encased
quarters.
Now that Steve has retired its hard
tellin' what kind of mischief he'll be getting into. |
