What's Happening

From the desk of your Secretary

JUNE 25/05 - Summer has settled into our valley with a passion, daytime temps in the early 90's. Have been down in left knee and the lawn is over-grown so I've found myself indoors more than usual for this time of the year. It's hard for me to grasp that half of the year is on the verge of being history finding me with so much left undone. Guess I could blame it on old age, but this old verse probably says it best. "My get up and go has done got and went!"

I'm so please that Penny Press Mint has picked up the torch dropped by Northern Mint, keeping the manufacture of encased coins alive. The response to the PPM-ECI encased quarters has been very good with nearly a complete sell-out of all four pieces. The few that remain will be inventoried in the ECI Store. As with all ECI issues, once a certain date coin has been issued that particular coin will never be encased again by us. In the future all issues will never be more than 100 pieces and in most cases they will be limited to 50 or less, with several less than 25.

We will attempt to issue at least three different encased coins or series of coins every quarter. In July we will be releasing the complete set of the 1999P 5 coin State quarter series along with the 3 different 2004 Canadian twenty-five cent pieces.

- Our membership stands at 169, a pick up of 18 for this year. Our goal remains to have 300 members by February 2006 and we're off to a very slow start. If we all could sponsor one new member each that goal would be met without much difficulty.

APRIL 30/05 - Well, we're having another wet spring here in the mountains which means that our out-of-doors projects here at the house is getting off to another slow start. What this amounts to is more time indoors working at the computer. After reviewing the 2005 survey results it came as no surprise that the majority of us are collecting more than just encased coins. Nearly 40 said that they are collections U.S. coins or medals and tokens. In recognition if this, the "News Flash" section on the the "Newsletter" page will be used to post articles not directly connected to collecting encased coins, several have been added in the last couple of days.

- All members are requested to visit the "Wrangler" page. We are in need of your able assistance in attributing the pieces shown. Everyone needs to pitch in with this project.

APRIL 14/05 - Jerry Ferrell #93 has announce the Norman Boughton #158 has opened a new department in the ECI Store for selling basic coin supplies. ECI members will be entitled to 25% discount off retail when ordering from the catalogue. Special orders will be eligible for a 10% discount. During the Grand Opening, now thru June 30th,  Norm will not be charging any additional for s&h. A GREAT DEAL for sure.

APRIL 09/05 - This evening while visiting the WBCC website I happened upon a page with photos taken over time of various WBCC members. Several of whom are also members of ECI. I'm happy to announce that on the whole they are much better looking than I had imagined. 'Course you can judge for yourself HERE.

The Original April's Fool Joke

APRIL 01/05 - Well Spring is here and we're all beginning to think about the stuff outdoors we'll need to do before summer sets in. For us, it removing a dead Dogwood that died late last fall and planting some new shrubs between us and the neighbors. Gotta clean out the goldfish ponds and try restart the lawn mover. Anyway, what all this leading to is that as we spend more time outdoors we tend to shelve our over the winter hobbies for a few months picking back up (hopefully) where we left off after the first frost. We at ECI will continue to add relevant content to the website; updating the check lists, posting interesting photos in the 'Show Case" and doing what we usually do, so drop in now a then to see what we've been up to.

I want to thank Tom Cain, Jr. and Steve Swingenstein for their recent gifts pictured below. They both add greatly to my collection and I appreciate their thoughtfulness and generosity.  Cecil
