~Members recruiting new members this quarter Cecil Starcher #02 04 - Jerry Ferrell #93 01. Pennsylvania continues to lead in the total number of members with 37, California remains in second with 36. Florida continues hold a tight grip on third at 25 members - Ohio retains 4th place with 21 with Illinois at 5th with 20 members. States still with 0 members: Alaska - Delaware. It is hard to believe that in nearly 5 years not one encased collector from either of these two states have joined us.

MEMBER'S ENCASED

Richard Crosby #40 showed these unique encased from his collection at the ECI Member's Get-Together in Pittsburgh last October.

This piece is of particular interest to me because when I was 5 or 6 I had a wooden Reddy Kilowatt that  my Dad gave it to me.  Can anyone provide me with any info about the pictured piece? Steve Swingenstein #123

The Reddy Kilowatt piece which as pictured, I don't believe it an encased piece at all.  It appears to be a name badge and someone inserted from the back, two cent coins.  The window in which the coins are in is for the person's name to be inserted.  It appears to be a generic badge used by electric power companies. Tom Casper #6

INQUIRIES TO ECI'S ANSWER MAN by  Jim Lawniczak #17

~QUESTION: "Hi, I have an encased cent as described: Round Horseshoe and 4 leaf clover at bottom, in Horseshoe "Keep Me and Never go broke, with 1953-D Lincoln Cent in center. Reverse: You Don't Need 1c Now / At Kay Jewelers. Would appreciate knowing where its from. I am an early ECI Member. Thanks, Bill"

~ANSWER: "Bill, this is a tough one. The problem is that there were a number of "Kay Jewelers" in the U.S. and it is hard to know which was this. It was a national chain that started out in Reading Pa. in 1916 and much later sold out to Sterling Jewelers, which is now headquartered in Akron, Ohio. But where was it in 1953? It is not listed under either Reading or Akron in the 1953 D & B. It had more than 840 stores in 44 states, so I have seen several attributions to one of these stores, e.g., Houston (Casement issue 11) [D & B lists there in 1953 under Kay's Jewelers not Kay Jewelers]. I wonder if it is listed in Bryan Ryker's Osborne order list? That's posted on the Internet and something to check out. I'm still looking for more definitive information."

AND FINALLY with HP

To Maintain A Healthy Level Of Insanity

1. At lunch time, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See of they Slow down.

2. Page yourself over the intercom. Don't disguise your voice. !

3. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.

4. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.

5. In the memo field of all your checks, write ' for marijuana'

6. Skip down the hall rather than walk and see how many looks you get.

7. Order a diet water whenever you go out to eat, with a serious face.

8. Specify that your drive-through order is 'to go'.

9. Sing along at the opera.

10. Five days in advance, tell your friends you can't attend their party because you have a headache.

11. When the money comes out the ATM, scream 'I won! I won!'

12. When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking lot, yelling 'Run for your lives! They're loose!'

13. Tell your children over dinner, 'Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go.'

And the final way to keep a healthy level of insanity

14. PICK UP A BOX OF CONDOMS AT THE PHARMACY, GO TO THE COUNTER AND ASK WHERE THE FITTING ROOM IS.
